It has been 11 months since the first COVID-19 case was reported in India on 30 Jan 2020, India and the world have come a long way in the fight against SARS-CoV-2. As new cases are found each day more and more people recover from COVID-19. Several post-COVID cases are reporting new complications.

To better understand this disease it is essential to know the doctors’ experience of COVID-19 recovery.

A total of 868 doctors participated in the survey, including 43% general practitioner, 36% others, 7% dentist, 5% cardiologist, 5% obstetrics &/or gynecology, and 4% chest specialist

Around 41% of doctors commonly encountered pulmonary fibrosis as a complication of COVID-19

A majority of doctors, 51% responded that patients recovered from COVID-19 occasionally presented with complications

Around 45% of doctors preferred a negative RT-PCR test for the discharge of COVID-19 patients

Around 41% of doctors responded that remdesivir is effective against COVID-19

A majority of doctors, 54% responded that patients with mild symptoms be treated at home

Around 59% of doctors responded that there is a possibility of reinfection

A majority of doctors, 67% responded that the nationwide lockdown helped to keep the number of COVID-19 cases under control

Around 56% of doctors felt that India could face a second wave of COVID-19 infections

Around 46% of doctors responded that multivitamins, herbal products, or other products marketed as immunity boosters are somewhat effective in boosting the immune system

A majority of doctors, 51% responded that they would recommend a vaccine to both patients recovered from COVID-19 and patients with comorbidities

The COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc and exposed many insufficiencies of healthcare systems around the world. India is the second most affected country due to COVID-19. The world is still learning about this disease, and a lot of research around the world is focused on knowing the post-COVID-19 effects. Based on the research the specific guidelines to treat COVID-19 are being updated regularly.

Our comprehensive survey on post-COVID-19 recovery revealed that pulmonary fibrosis followed by chronic fatigue were the common complications. Doctors should Remdesvir followed by dexamethasone were the preferred drug for COVID-19 treatment. The majority of doctors feel that India will likely face a second wave of infection this could be mainly due to ease of restrictions and people failing to take adequate precautions. With the increasing evidence of new and effective therapies for COVID-19, doctors must keep themselves informed about these. Post-COVID-19, Doctors must not only educate the patients but also their families about the complications and the necessary precautions.
