Severe cases of COVID-19

Most of the COVID-19 cases recover without the need for special treatment. However, some patients develop severe symptoms and require complex treatment. Most of the severe cases reported have some of the other comorbidities such as diabetes mellitus, heart disorders, respiratory disorders, hypertension, etc. It is estimated that 1 out of 6 people who get COVID-19 will become seriously ill. Patients with severe COVID-19 symptoms experience, acute respiratory distress syndrome, multiorgan failure, respiratory failure, shock, pneumonia, sepsis, acute kidney injury, arrhythmia, cardiomyopathy, secondary bacterial infections, GI bleeding, myopathy, thromboembolism, etc. Severe cases will need prolonged hospitalization and the treatment mostly involves supportive management.
